NATURAL MANDALA GALLERY

AN ODYSSEY FOR THE IMAGINATION
Each of these intimate images taken of The Natural Mandala provides a unique perspective on the dimensionality of this work. Many of these photos are taken at angles in which most people would not otherwise be able to see even standing before the physical mandala. When I was creating The Natural Mandala, I often imagined being a two-inch miniature version of myself walking within, climbing around and looking up at the monumental structures. Thinking of this mandala as landscape is similar to other mandala concepts. For instance, Tibetan mandalas are thought of as a one-dimensional schematic view of an imagined three-dimensional building where upon an invocation for Deity to manifest within takes place. So, these images highlight various architectural features within the structured form and the organic materials used to render this multi-dimensional construct, converging to bring the mandala form to life.

Using your imagination, these images can provide a unique perspective into the natural world as well. When we look closely at something and become intimate with our seeing, we begin to attune ourselves to the subtle nuances of nature’s design. This deep sense of seeing expands our five senses and we begin to feel well beyond the seeing. This then, calibrates our extraordinary sense for being able to assimilate the meaning for what we see. This is a true hallmark of the rapport we with nature and yet our struggle commences as we look to nature to understand the ineffable qualities and aspects of existence. Consider this, that the answers we seek are there, if we could only speak the Language of Nature.
